OK, I have heard this question many times, what does it take to be an affiliate? what do I need to do? people think it’s so complicated and they give up even without trying, but the truth is, it’s not that difficult to be an affiliate. Today I will share with you the truth about becoming an affiliate, and what it takes to become an affiliate.

I actually used to be very intimidated by the word affiliate, and whenever I tried to watch videos on YouTube that talked about Affiliate Marketing and how to become an affiliate, I become even more afraid because their videos made things sound so complicated and I thought to myself, wow! there is no way I am ever going to be able to learn this stuff. But it’s really not that complicated. To me, words like Niche, SEO, Keyword, sounded like a whole new language.

Becoming an affiliate is not as complicated as it sounds

And when someone just talks so fast and just goes through things with you assuming you know what they are talking about, it becomes very difficult to learn at least for me it does, I like it when someone teaches me something step by step without skipping anything, and even repeating themselves if need be until I grasp what they are talking about.

The problem is some people like to complicate things and I am the kind of person who prefers to simplify things, I must say that I am so lucky that I was able to find an easy way to learn affiliate marketing because, to be honest, I don’t know if I would be where I am today if I did not find a simpler way to learn.

So let’s see what does it take to be an affiliate, is it that complicated?

All it takes is having a website or a YouTube channel, although these days there are people who are doing affiliate Marketing with social media like Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook, all it takes is joining an Affiliate program, and then you choose what kind of products you would like to promote, and then you will get the links for those products and you start promoting. When someone clicks your link and buy the product, then you earn a commission, it’s that simple.

But sometimes the people who choose to do affiliate marketing without websites, they might run into troubles from time to time because their links might get blocked at any time if the platform they are using decides, they are being spammy, the thing is, if all your posts contain affiliate links, it could appear as if you are spamming the system and you might get penalized for posting too many Affiliate links.

Having your own website is like having your own piece of real estate

I mean even on your own website, you should not have affiliate links on all of your posts or pages, because your website could be flagged as a spammy website.

The good thing about having your own website, is the fact that you own your own business, you can decide how many products you want to promote and your links will stay put for as long as you want unless for whatever reason you decide to remove them yourself, I mean I know people who are earning money from links they placed 3 or 4 years ago, that is the power of passive income.

Your affiliate links Can generate revenue for many years to come 

If you create great content and make sure your website is always in good shape meaning you have 24/7 monitoring and support, then you could actually be making money while you sleep, Of course, you have to put out content consistently. So in short, you will need a computer, internet connection, you need to figure out what you want to promote, and then you need to join an affiliate program that will provide you with the links to those products that you want to promote.

But because sometimes life can get complicated, if you have a website and you find yourself in a situation where you don’t have time at all to work on it, do not delete your website, just make sure to keep it online, pay for your hosting and make sure you renew your domain registration, which is usually an annual thing and it’s quite cheap, I mean my domain cost me only $14 a whole year.

Keep Your Website Live At All Times

By keeping your website live, it can still be found by customers even when you are not actively working on it and you can still make money, we have many members in the affiliate marketing community that I am a member of, that post saying that they were shocked to learn that they had made money from a website they had not worked on for a long time. So always make sure your website is live.

And again that’s the beauty of having your own website because unlike when you use social media to do affiliate marketing with your own website you are in control, no one will remove your links or block them, there are so many blogs and videos teaching people how to make money without a website. Now, even though you will be able to make money using social media, there is no telling how long your links will be live.

I have heard so many people complain that their business was ruined in one night as a result of using social media as the primary sauce of your income. And as the only place to do business, their links were blocked and they could not fix the problem and when they contact the support, they do not get an answer, and they just lose their business just like that, so I will keep insisting, you need your own self hosted website.

To be an affiliate is not as scary as it sounds. You can give it a try and see for yourself, join some affiliate programs depending on what you would like to promote. And just run with it, I have seen people who have blogs and websites that could be making money but they do not take advantage of Affiliate marketing.

Or people who have a huge following on social media, take advantage of the traffic and promote something, and have a nice side hustle. And this goes to especially those young people who have so many followers, create a website, and start sending that traffic to your website. And that’s how you create an online business.
